17th Annual Western Carolina SC Division
Prayer Breakfast
The 17th Annual Western Carolina SC Division Prayer Breakfast was held on January 20, 2024 at the Aiken County Historical Museum. When we started the day off with prayer and thanksgiving for the food and what today was all about by our camp Chaplain Ken Temples. Once we started the Prayer Breakfast Commander Moore brought greetings from the camp. Lee Duvall presented the Mary Lee / Essie Osteen Christian Woman's Award to Felisha Westall with Walking Tall Ministries. The Ministry started off in 2015 when Felisha left her job to start giving hair cuts to the homeless. It has grown into a Bible Study daily, a soup kitchen, a warming station for the homeless, a food pantry for those in need. With the award our camp gave a donation in the amount of $200 for the ministry. We continued on with our prayer breakfast with Ken Temples bringing a short history of the Nation's Christian Heritage where he discussed the common man. He read about a man from Connecticut that was a farmer who heard about someone coming to town that was going to preach and he took his wife into town to hear of God and his love. We had special music by Mark LeGrand and his daughter. Mark led several songs for us this morning. South Carolina Division Adjutant / Camp Commander Blake Moore also presented to our speaker his Life Member Certificate for the South Carolina Division. Our guest speaker this year was division Chaplain Danny Blackwell. Chaplain Blackwell got very comfortable before starting in on his sermon for today. He read from Acts 28:1-6. His topic was "Why should I keep a fire burning?". He gave us a few points to keep in mind for the year.
1. Notice the Presence of Cold and Rain: there was no sunshine. We have all been in those times where we feel like there is no sunshine. We have to make a fire and maintain the fire for God to guide us.
2. Notice the Presence of the serpent: the serpent came once the fire started. Be careful of the serpents in your life as they will try to stop you from building the fire.
3. Notice the Presence of the Crowd: The crowd was there as they were wanting to get warm and then once they saw the serpent bite him they said that he was evil. Once the serpent was thrown back into the fire and nothing happened the people changed their mind. Continue to build your fire even when one tries to stop you.
Pastor Blackwell asked us all to join in the singing of Victory In Jesus.
We also closed with a prayer of reflection and prayers for those that are sick and lost.
