Bethany Cemetery
Aiken, South Carolina
The General Joseph Wheeler Camp adopted Bethany Cemetery to tend to the 54 Confederate Soldiers graves that are within the gates above. As we tend to the graves we place Confederate flags on the graves three times a year. We also hold our Confederate Memorial Day for Aiken County there in May. Recently in December of 2018 we were fortunate to hold a ceremony to honor the soldiers with Wreaths Across America. To our knowledge it was the first of its kind with honoring the Southern Soldiers. The camp has placed a marker closest to the Confederate section in honor of Mrs. Ritter. We have also planted and cared for a Palmetto Tree with the marker. (A photo of the marker is below.) Below is a map of the cemetery along with a list of the Confederate Soldiers buried there. We also have a link to download the list if you need it.
